Gratitude requires stillness and reflection, two qualities which can be difficult to manifest in our busy, overstimulated lives. Taking time to reflect and write down what you are grateful for produces many transformative effects on your life.

MENTAL HEALTH BENEFITS

• Helps lower risk of anxiety and depression
• Helps us focus on positive emotions
• Produces more optimism and happiness
 
PHYSICAL HEALTH BENEFITS
• Sleep longer and feel more refreshed upon waking
• Have improved immunity
• Have reduced pain and improved cardiovascular health


EMOTIONAL HEALTH BENEFITS
• Be more helpful, generous and compassionate
• Feel less lonely and isolated
• Have low levels of resentment and envy


IDEAS FOR ENGAGING IN THE PRACTICE OF GRATITUDE:
KEEP A GRATITUDE JOURNAL
• Keep a journal on your bedside table
• Establish a daily practice of recording 3 things for which you're thankful
• Record the gifts, grace, benefits and good things you enjoy
• Reflect on moments associated with ordinary events, your personal attributes or valued people in your life


WRITE A LETTER OF GRATITUDE
• Express your appreciation of someone by writing a letter or sending a text
• Personal correspondence builds connections and strengthens your relationships
