Spring is here, and with it comes new beginnings, growth, and the miracle of life. At Healthy Living Chiropractic, we are honored to work with expecting mothers and newborn babies to provide them with the best start possible. As a pediatric certified chiropractor, I have seen firsthand the benefits of chiropractic care for newborns. Most newborns and infants have some degree of spinal tension and restriction following their birth. It's no wonder, given that they spend months cooped up in a small space before being pushed out of a tiny opening. This tension can manifest in a variety of ways, including problems with latching or nursing, fussiness, gassiness, arching their back, inability to soothe, clenching fists, head favoring one side, and stiffness in the body.
That's where chiropractic care comes in. We evaluate babies by looking at their posture, checking their passive movement of their trunk, legs, and head rotation, and examining their hips, spine, neck, and cranium for restrictions. We also look for tongue and lip ties and talk to parents about what we find before gently adjusting the baby if necessary. One of the most common questions we get is whether adjusting babies is safe. The answer is a resounding yes! Adjusting babies is incredibly gentle, with the pressure being that of touching a ripe tomato. Babies' bones are mostly cartilage, so the adjustments are really just gentle sustained pressure. In fact, often times babies can sleep or eat while being adjusted. The results we see from chiropractic care for newborns are truly amazing. Babies sleep better, nurse and eat better, are more relaxed overall, more content, experience less gassiness, and have better digestion (pooping more often). We highly recommend that all parents of newborns and infants consider chiropractic care for their little ones. At Healthy Living Chiropractic, we are offering a FREE baby check within the first 8 weeks for all of our current patients. We encourage you to share this information with any women or parents who are planning to have a baby this year, as well as with any parents of infants. Together, we can help give our little ones the best start possible.
